Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell online?

Yes, but not all our products. Some, such as Reclaimed Pine and Pitch Pine are only made to order. These we do not sell online. To buy online, please visit www.thewoodenflooringco.com

Do you only sell reclaimed timber?

No - we are also able to offer new timber as well as old.

How long does the whole process of choosing the timber to laying it normally take?

Orders can be expedited. Production backlog ranges from 1 to 2 weeks depending on demand. As a general rule of thumb a further 1-2 weeks for the timber to acclimatise within its final environment is recommended. After that a good flooring contractor is a goldmine.

Can the timber be glued down?

Due to natural movement, it is advisable that “wide board” solid timber flooring should be nailed down in the traditional manner (nailed through the face of the board). There are variations around this general advice. Narrower board Solid wood floors (<150mm) are often glued or “secret nailed”. Much will depend on the moisture content of the wood, an effective damp proof membrane within the floor substructure and the general humidity of the environment.  Engineered flooring is ideally suited to be glued or laid on a floating floor basis. Can you fit a wooden floor anywhere in the house like a bathroom or kitchen? Yes!  It is however advisable to ensure that your wood is adequately protected with a quality finish in rooms that are likely to have spills.

Do you provide a fitting service?

No but we are happy to refer you to a number of experienced fitters.

Can you give me some information on the different types of finish that I can apply to the timber?

The most common finishes are:
Hard Wax Oil - This product is superb. Why not try our OSMO range! See the "OSMO" page for more details!
Wax - This is high maintenance and low durability. It is used when the required look is traditional and also offers a pleasing smell and appearance.
Oils - Less maintenance required than wax and more durable. Oils are usually water resistant and require some maintenance.
